Spotlight Notifications help your posts reach a bigger—and more relevant—audience across LinkedIn in the U.S. and Canada. We tailor each send to specific segments (think: finance, healthcare leaders, new grads, and more), putting your content in front of people who will genuinely care about what you’re sharing. Spotlight is a win-win for creators looking to spark fresh conversations, gain new followers, and showcase expertise. While we love seeing all submissions, sometimes we’ll suggest a tweak or two to help your story really shine. Below are our guidelines to get you Spotlight-ready.
At a Glance:
- Fresh: Offers something new or an off-the-beaten-path perspective.
- Relevant: Speaks directly to a carefully chosen audience with content that solves a pain point or piques real curiosity.
- Conversation-Worthy: Has substance beyond “Weigh in?”—there’s a real topic to discuss.
- Credible & Low-Promo: Feels authentic; minimal “sales” or brand plugs; data is accurate.
When in doubt, if a piece of content does not clearly meet at least two or three of these dimensions, it likely isn’t Spotlight-ready—or it needs reworking before we send it.

1. Novel, Timely Insight
What We’re Looking For:
- Fresh data or a new angle on a heavily discussed topic (e.g., real-time interest rate changes, AI’s impact on mid-career upskilling).
- Specific, relevant takeaways that aren’t obvious or over-covered (e.g., the unique tax complications of inheriting an IRA, the difference between claims-made vs. occurrence-based malpractice coverage).
- Recent (1–2 days old) and/or timely in a broader sense. If the post dates itself *mentioning days it is posted, holidays, etc we will reject or ask for an edit.
Why It Matters
- Our audiences get bombarded with surface-level posts. Spotlight-worthy content dives deeper, presenting new knowledge or a unique spin.
- Timeliness can boost engagement, as members feel they’re getting on-trend insights before everyone else.
2. High Relevance to a Targeted Audience
What We’re Looking For
- The content directly speaks to the professional or personal needs of the audience segment:
- Industry-specific: E.g., a finance reporter posting about 2025 interest rate forecasts (perfect for finance/real estate professionals).
- Topic-specific: E.g., an inheritance/estate planning post targeted to older professionals or financial planners.
- Functional (job role) or aspirational (recent grads, career changers): e.g., teacher → corporate transitions, new business skills for UXers.
